“Quite a crazy tournament” – Twitter celebrates Canada clinching gold at 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships
Canada wins 2022 World Championships
On Saturday night, Canada seized the gold medal at the 2022 World Junior Championships, marking its 19th victory gloriously. Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson scored the golden goal in OT at 3:20 3-on-3 to give Canada a 3-2 win over Finland.
While Canada blew its 2-goal lead in the second period, Johnson covered it up by tucking in his own rebound, marking Canada’s final goal for the victory. 13 shots were recorded during the first two periods, while the Finns shot 17 on nets in third.

Kent Johnson and Mason McTavish greatly assist in Canada’s 19th World Junior victory
The Finnish players Aleksi Heimosalmi and Joakim Kemell successfully sent the game to OT, as noted on news.yahoo.com. While on the other side, Joshua Roy and William Dufour scored for Canada and goaltender Dylan Garand made 29 saves.
Canada’s Mason MacTavish is considered the tournament’s top scorer, who recorded 8 goals and 9 assists and became the Most Valuable Player of the game. One of his best moments in the game was assisting Kent Johnson in the OT goa, guarding Finnish player Topi Niemela just seconds before Johnson set the goal in.

Sweden came in third. Buffalo Sabres prospect Isak Rosen said, “You strive to win the last game”. “Of course, we wanted the gold, but better bronze than nothing.” While Finland secured the second spot. Though it came in second, their fans congratulated them wholeheartedly. Because of the rising COVID 19 cases in December, this tournament had to be rescheduled to 2022 August.
