Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Ryan Ellis could be missing out on the start of the 2022-23 regular-season games starting this October. Last season also he played in only 4 games until November 13th.
The 31-year-old has been suffering from a “multilayered” medical issue, involving a “complex of the whole pelvic region”. On Monday team coach John Tortorella said about Ryan’s current condition, “If you’re asking me right now, I doubt it”.

Ryan Ellis wants to be part of the upcoming NHL season, but can he?
The Flyers will be playing against the New Jersey Devils on October 13th, but coach John said that he highly doubted Ryan’s participation in the match. He is not yet ready to play for their open training camp starting on September 21.
Coach John further stated, “I’ve had several conversations with Ryan Ellis as far as how he’s doing”. “That’s been an up and down process for him. He’s doing everything he possibly can to get ready for camp, [but] I’m doubtful that’s going to happen.”
Though Ryan hoped that he will be ready for the training camp on April 30, “We have a plan, everyone’s very comfortable and happy with the plan,” he said at the time. “I’m excited to be ready for training camp. It’s going to be a long summer getting through it all, but I’m excited.”
Ryan’s not participating in the training camp can be indicated as him missing out on at least the start of the regular-season games. John commented, “To have an injury like he has, miss training camp, and then be ready for the regular season, I think it’s going to take some time”. “I don’t want to speak for Ryan, I haven’t spoken to him in a few weeks. But I know it was up and down as far as just what he’s doing right now trying to get himself ready.”
The Flyers ended up last in the Metropolitan Divison last season with a score of 25-46-11. During this offseason, they signed up defenceman Tony DeAngelo to a 2-year $10 million contract, and Justin Braun to a 1-year $1.79 million contract. Regarding Ryan, John said, “This isn’t a reoccurring injury”. “You’ve got to remember what Ryan Ellis is; he’s a competitor. When he plays, he plays hard. He’s more frustrated than anybody about this, that it just hasn’t been able to get straightened out.“
