Social media celebrates the Edmonton Oilers’ signing defenceman Ryan Murray to a 1-year $750,000 on Friday. Last season the ex-Avalancher scored 4 assists in 37 regular-season games and won the Stanley Cup as part of the team.

Unfortunately, the 28-year-old did not participate in the playoffs. He was first chosen by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft as the 2nd overall pick.

After Ryan‘s signup with the Oilers, he will be joining a group of high-caliber players like Philip Broberg, Vincent Desharnais, Markus Neimelainen, and Dmitri Samorukov and compete for a spot in the Oilers’ top six at defenceman.

After Duncan Keith’s retirement, the top five defencemen last year were Darnell Nurse, Tyson Barrie, Brett Kulak, Evan Bouchard, and Cody Ceci. Murray played with the Avalanche, Devils, and Blue Jackets recording a score of 128 points with 15 goals and 113 assists, in 432 regular-season games, and 3 points in 20 playoff games.
