An injury that might come as a nasty blow for the defending Stanley Cup champions, Colorado Avalanche forward Andrew Cogliano suffered a fracture on his neck following a brutal hit by Jordan Eberle.
In Game 6 against the Seattle Kraken in the NHL playoffs, Cogliano was immediately tended by a trainer after the hit. He was seen bending his neck awkwardly after the hit and was driven to the boards with 2:16 left in the second period. Cogliano, however, returned in the third period and skated a regular shift.
Surprisingly, Eberle was called only for a two-minute boarding minor instead of a five-minute penalty to initiate a review. The fans are furious and puzzled that the league is not taking severe disciplinary actions against Eberle.
Fans are fuming about the lack of disciplinary actions against Jordan Eberle for injury to Andrew Cogliano
The defending Stanley Cup winner, Colorado Avalanche, won Game 6, 4-1, against the Kraken, with Artturi Lehkonen scoring twice at the Climate Pledge Arena on Friday. Both teams are tied 3-3, with Game 7 deciding the team’s fate in the playoffs.
However, what infuriates fans the most is the lack of disciplinary actions against Jordan Eberle for the injury inflicted on Andrew Cogliano. The Avalanche are looking for a crucial win in their final game of the series against the Krakens. Without their forward Cogliano, it would be incredibly tough for the Colorado-based team to push for the West.
Interestingly, Colorado defenseman Cale Makar was suspended for Game 5 of the series after a hit on Jared McCann. Given the severity of his injury, it seems like Cogliano will be indefinitely out of play.
Cogliano has been an instrumental player for the Avalanches, helping them win their third Stanley Cup in the win last season. He is known for having incredible experience on the brink, being the only Avalanche player to have played record 120 career playoff games.
Besides, Colorado is also missing their captain Gabriel Landeskog in the lineup as he has been sidelined for the entire season following knee surgery. Furthermore, Valeri Nichushukin is also unavailable for the upcoming games due to personal reasons. Nichushkin last played in Game 2 of the series, scoring in the Avalanche’s 3-2 victory.
