“This is a tough one” – Wild trades defenceman Dmitry Kulikov to Ducks for future considerations
Dmitry Kulikov
On Wednesday, defenceman Dmitry Kulikov was traded to the Anaheim Ducks by the Minnesota Wilds to receive future considerations. Currently, Dmitry is on his last 2-year contract signed on July 28, 2021, in a $4.5 million deal with a $2.25 annual average value.
The 31-year-old was selected by the Florida Panthers in the first round of the 2009 NHL Draft as the 14th overall. Apart from Wild, he has played with New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, and Panthers.
General manager Bill Guerin’s thoughts on Dmitry Kulikov’s trade
With all the NHL teams he has played with, he gathered a total score of 198 points, with 42 goals, and 156 assists, in 805 regular-season games, and 8 points with 1 goal and 7 assists in 29 playoff games. Last season with the Wild he recorded 24 points with 7 goals, 17 assists in 80 regular-season games, and 1 assist in 2 Stanley Cup playoff games.
Wild general manager Bill Guerin said, “This is a tough one, because he had a great year last year, played very well for us, but we need some more cap space”. “We felt we had maybe one too many defensemen and we don’t want to put guys in a position to where they’re not playing or not playing enough. This has been talked about for quite a while with Anaheim, so it just kind of came to a head today, but we wish him nothing but the best.”
