“Time to get back to work” – Wild’s defenceman Matt Dumba looking forward to get over hump after record-setting season
Matt Dumba
Minnesota Wild defenceman and alternate captain Matt Dumba believes that the team has yet to overcome another step in order to win the next playoff series. The team has not won a Stanley Cup Playoff since 2015, losing in six straight playoff series. Though they did set a record-breaking season in 2021-22.
The team set a record with 53 wins and 113 points in a season and finished 2nd in the Central Division, but unfortunately got eliminated by the St. Louis Blues in 6 games in the Western Conference First Round. Except for a few exceptions like Kevin Fiala and Cam Talbot who were traded to the Los Angeles Kings and Ottawa Senators respectively, the team will have the bulk of their last season roster back in line.

Matt Dumba excited about the next step with the Minnesota Wild
On Monday at the Da Beauty League, Dumba mentioned, “We all know what a great regular season we had, but it’s time for us to get back to work and focus on a deeper run in the postseason”. “We have to get over that hump.” The Wilds’ were successful in resigning goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to a 2-year $7 million contract, and defenceman Jacob Middleton to a 3-year $7.35 million contract respectively.
Dumba stated, “It’ll be awesome (having those guys back)”. “Those guys are going to be a big part of our team. We’re going to need everyone this coming season. To start the year with those guys, building our relationships, kind of brothers in arms type of thing, and not just prove everyone wrong, but prove that we can make a deep run and we can be great. We can do it again this season.”

Other than the veteran players, Matt Dumba has high expectations from young players like forwards Liam Ohgren a No. 19 2022 Draft pick, and Marco Rossi a No. 9th pick from the 2020 Draft. To their respect, Dumba said, “I think those young guys will recognize that they have a chance to make this team and make an immediate impact,”.
He further noted, “They will be out there competing their hardest, and we’ll all be pushing each other and hold each other accountable right from the start.” “Someone’s going to step up, and why not be a young guy? But ultimately, we’re all about being unselfish, so we all have to be ready to step up from Day One.”
