As the National Hockey League (NHL) continues to impress the fans in Sweden through the Global Series, there have been some tight games. This time they were undone by the heroics of William Nylander who shined in his home country to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 memorable win.

Before the game, the Leafs center player asked the management to give him around 90-100 tickets. His close friends and family including his grandmother were in attendance in Stockholm as he took to the ice field. Perhaps fitting for the occasion and being inspired by his close ones, he dropped one of the best performances of this season.

After the Red Wings took a 2-0 lead, Nylander decided to step up his game. He would assist Tyler Bertuzzi from close range to pull one back before leveling the scores with an emphatic finish. He would later set up John Tavares to score the winner as the Leafs turned it around and won the game with a 3-2 scoreline in their favor.

William Nylander extends point streak to 16 games to start the season

This season the Toronto Maple Leafs have started off in strong fashion. While star forward Auston Matthews has stolen the show with his phenomenal goal-scoring form, William Nylander has gone under the radar. His performance against the Red Wings in Sweden extended his point streak to sixteen games.

Since the start of the season, he has managed to grab at least one point in every game. An impressive tally such as this has made him one of the biggest weapons in the form of attack that the Maple Leafs now possess. The Swedish star has done good both in goals and assists with 11 goals and 14 assists (25 points) in the season so far.

He is now eyeing one of the longest season-opening point streaks. Speaking after the game regarding the atmosphere and his reaction to playing in Sweden, he said through Sportsnet:

"Family being here, Swedish fans, I think this is very special. A lot of fun, for sure... A very special day, for sure."

The Leafs fanbase would be hoping Nylander can continue this outstanding run of form as they battle it out for the top spot. They will say goodbye to Sweden after facing the Minnesota Wild in their next outing.
