Twitterati gets emotional after Ryan Donato gives a fitting tribute to his late friend

Ryan Donato

Seattle Kraken forward Ryan Donato won everyone’s hearts on Monday while remembering his old friend, Colby Cave. He wore one of Cave’s game day ties to bring him “luck and safety” this season.

Notably, Donato was close friends with Cave as the pair had broken together into the NHL with the Boston Bruins during the 2017-2018 season. The latter played three NHL seasons for the Bruins and Edmonton Oilers. However, the world couldn’t see more of him as he died in April 2020 after undergoing the surgery to remove a colloid cyst that was causing pressure on his brain.

On Monday, Cave’s widow, Emily, also marked her stadium presence at the Kraken game against the Chicago Blackhawks in Seattle. She was seen sitting in the stands alongside Donato’s girlfriend, Bradley Fusco.

“I gifted Ryan one of Colb’s game worn ties. Today, he is wearing it. Not only did he get a goal but he was first star. The tears were flowing. I love you, Ry. Colb would be so proud. @NHL,” she tweeted.

Emily thanks Donato for honouring her husband

Soon after the game ended, Emily Cave couldn’t help but share her emotions about the entire night’s circumstances. She later went on to express her feelings via an Instagram post.

“Talking with many people, it’s very clear that Colb would have played for the Seattle Kraken. Ryan wearing one of his game worn ties tonight that I gifted him, then scoring a goal, and winning the first star with me in the stands was extremely emotional. There are no words to describe how close the NHL family is and how thankful I am for them. Thank you for continuing to honour my husband, keeping me alive, and being so incredible. I love y’all,” Emily captioned her post.
