The Vancouver Canucks raced to a 5-2 victory on Sunday against the New York Rangers, which followed their 7-1 home win on Thursday against the Calgary Flames. As a result, this gave Vancouver a three-game winning streak for the first time since December.

At 26-22-6, the Canucks are four games over .500 for the very first time in nearly a couple of years. Moreover, their 69 per cent win percentage since Bruce Boudreau took over the coaching role on December 6 ties them (18-7-4 since then) with the mighty Toronto Maple Leafs (17-7-2) as one of the best records in North America.

“I think we’re just playing with a lot of desperation,” Matthew Highmore said. “I mean, not that we weren’t in January . . . but I think we’ve found a little something here. Our group is growing in confidence. We have to continue to keep it going and get points, and you never know what will happen.”

“Have run out of things to say”

Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau went on to leap massive praises for his side’s goaltender Thatcher Demko, whose most important saves were in the first period when the score was close.

I’ve run out of things to say because, I mean, he’s been incredible,” Boudreau said. “The Calgary game wasn’t a 7-1 game and this game wasn’t a 5-2 game. If it wasn’t for Demko early, it would have been a lot different. He comes to play every night.”

“I don’t know if standard is the word,” he added when asked about it on Zoom. “We’re definitely seeing that with every game that goes by, the next game is way more important. I mean, we’re in a playoff chase. We have to be ready for every game. That’s what we have to do. I don’t know if it’s any more readiness or whatever, but we’re playing to win.”
