“We’re gonna keep doing our thing,” reckons Ryan Reaves as New York Rangers acquire top spot
Ryan Reaves
The New York Rangers forward Ryan Reaves, who is known for his quick-wit, was brought mid-way in the off-season to provide toughness, grit, and some size on the fourth line. However, he didn’t have many goals to show against his name as the 34-year-old veteran lived up to that with zero of them in his first 32 games
But things completely changed in the game no. 33 on Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs scored the first two goals of his Rangers career. This helped his side clinch a 6-3 triumph in a battle of Eastern Conference elite teams at their home ground of Madison Square Garden. Moreover, the Rangers also reached the top of the Points Table in the Metropolitan Division with 26 wins in 40 matches.
“Had a terrible nap and a Red Bull, and I felt good”
Soon after the game ended, the Canadian ice hockey right winger talked about the pre-match behind the turnaround in his performance.
“I didn’t really change much,” Reaves said. “I had a terrible nap (before the game) and a Red Bull, and I felt good.”
“I’ve been taking my vitamins,” he added.
“I think we know it. I think maybe some of the league doesn’t believe it, but let them keep (not) believing it,” Reaves said, when asked if the Rangers should be considered as one of the best NHL teams. “We’re gonna keep doing our thing and, I mean, the standings don’t lie.”
The New York team will now meet the Hurricanes on Friday in North Carolina. Ahead of this clash, Reaves reckoned that there’s not a better way to enter that elite matchup than coming off this type of victory.
“It shows that we can hang with the big boys … that we are one of the big boys,” he said. “We’ve got to keep beating the playoff teams. That’s something we’ve talked about, but I think we’re proving to the league that we’re a contender.”
