“Worst blizzard in decades” forced the postponement of the Jets-Kraken game in Winnipeg on Tuesday

Winnipeg Jets and Seattle Kraken’s will be having their game postponed and rescheduled to May 1 due to an expected ‘worst blizzard’ hit at Winnipeg between late Tuesday and early Friday. The game would have taken place at Canada Life Center on Wednesday but is delayed by the orders of the NHL about the upcoming storm. The game between the Jets vs Kraken will continue on Sunday, May 1, at 2 p.m CT. The regular season is scheduled to end by April 29th.

The NHL stated that “The decision to postpone the game at this time was made in order to minimize the potential disruption to the regular-season schedule in the event the severe weather that is expected to hit the Winnipeg area were not only to force cancellation of tomorrow night’s game, but also prevents timely and necessary post-game travel, including, specifically, the Jets’ ability to travel for their game in Florida on Friday, April 15.”

The Weather Network is predicting a major storm is “poised to wallop” Southern Manitoba overnight Tuesday into Wednesday lasting till Friday morning. The weather report also stated that “snowfall accumulations of 30-50 cm accompanied by northerly winds gusting 60-70 km/h giving zero visibility at times in snow and blowing snow.”

Winnipeg will have its worst. The city will see two storm blasts of 15-20 cm of snow between late Tuesday and early Friday. The TWN warns the residents against travel as “this storm has the potential to be the worst blizzard in decades” and widespread power outages can happen. According to sportsnet.ca, the Winnipeg Jets plan on leaving Tuesday to avoid the blizzard.

Till now the Jets have kept their flames alive with the 4-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens win over with 35-28-11 points. During their inaugural season, the Seattle Krakens have been eliminated from post-season participation.

In April 1997 a storm of similar magnitude buried 19 inches of snow in Winnipeg and caused a severe flood once warmer spring conditions returned.
