Nick Diaz and his younger brother Nate Diaz are two of the most popular legends in UFC history. It was Nick who created a huge fan base in his early years, and later, Nate received similar love from the fanbase. The Diaz brothers enjoyed massive popularity, but Conor McGregor existed on a completely different level of fame globally.

Nate Diaz fought Conor McGregor first at UFC 196, when the Notorious was riding an unstoppable momentum. Defying all expectations, Diaz submitted McGregor, delivering a stunning upset that shocked fans, media, and the entire MMA world. Recently in a viral interview, Nick Diaz revealed how those big fights changed his life personally.

When my brother started these big fights with Conor McGregor, the UFC and MMA blew up to where it was hard to walk around. (Expletive) fanbase is everywhere.

Nick Diaz, who grew up in Stockton, explained how sudden media attention limited his freedom and slowed his ability to make immediate decisions. During that period, the elder Diaz brother was serving a suspension related to marijuana use and focused on supporting his brother throughout demanding training camps.

Nick spent that time helping Nate Diaz prepare, offering guidance, experience, and motivation while remaining sidelined from active competition himself. The Diaz brothers share a similar fighting style built around constant forward pressure, unorthodox movement, durability, and an incredible gas tank.

Back then, both brothers were extremely close, publicly praising each other at every opportunity and presenting a united front. However, tension has emerged between them lately, creating noticeable distance compared to their earlier years.

In the same interview, Diaz revealed his brother needs to cut certain crew members he felt were unappreciative. This has certainly brought attention to their relationship, which was previously celebrated among fight fans. Nick Diaz’s last fight was in 2021 when he fought his old rival Robbie Lawler and lost devastatingly.

Nick Diaz looked sluggish, and fans grew concerned about his professional future, questioning his motivation, health, and direction inside fighting circles. He was later scheduled to face Vicente Luque but never competed, staying away from fights despite occasional public sightings. Meanwhile, Nate Diaz retired from the UFC and tried boxing, where he has a 1-1 record.

After the second bout, both fighters stood bloodied and exhausted. The two popular fighters embraced inside the cage and showed genuine mutual respect. Since then, they have often mentioned each other publicly, mostly with respect rather than hostility or bitterness.

In a later interview, Diaz was asked whether McGregor helped him grow as a fighter. He replied candidly, admitting the rivalry pushed him mentally and physically while acknowledging a competitive but respectful relationship.

I think he’s cool but f*** him.

Both fighters have frequently discussed a potential trilogy, either inside the UFC Octagon or even across the boxing ring. Nate Diaz believes fighting McGregor at the upcoming White House event fits their historic rivalry perfectly. McGregor appears motivated for a comeback, sharing intense training clips while signaling readiness to return against almost any opponent available.

Earlier, Michael Chandler was expected to face McGregor, but Dana White recently denied those matchup claims publicly. McGregor insists he is ready for anyone, and Diaz remains a compelling high-profile option.
