Nick Diaz is one of MMA’s popular legends, admired worldwide for his attitude and unforgettable performances inside the Octagon. The former UFC welterweight title contender has been absent from competition for years, leaving fans speculating about a potential return.
Recently, Diaz has resurfaced publicly, making appearances and sparking controversy after directing pointed comments toward his younger brother, Nate Diaz. Nick Diaz rose to prominence in the early 2000s, building a massive fanbase that indirectly boosted Nate Diaz’s UFC debut much later.
Together, the Diaz brothers cultivated a cult following, with fans admiring their authenticity, loyalty, and unbreakable brotherhood throughout MMA. Recently, however, signs suggest their relationship has grown strained, sparking concern among longtime supporters. In a recent interview, Nick Diaz explained he differs from Nate in how he treats people and handles personal interactions.
I’ve been the same since day one. I’m always going to be the same. I like talking to people, taking pictures with fans. I don’t like to be the guy that everybody says, ‘that guy’s a (expletive).’ I feel like that’s more my brother – he’s kind of stuck up.

“My circle is small now, and I finally understand why,” wrote Diaz, and suggested that Nate has to cut down some people from his group. It led to fans making assumptions regarding a potential strained relationship between Nate and Nick. However, recently, both brothers were seen watching UFC 324 together, which further changed narratives.
In recent years, Nick Diaz faced public concern after being found disoriented in public spaces, especially on the streets. In 2023, footage circulated online showing Diaz barefoot and confused, prompting fans to question his safety and mental state. Soon after, statements from his partner surfaced, explaining that Diaz struggled personally and financially.
These confirmed incidents highlighted serious personal issues, shifting the discussion from fighting legacy toward concern for Nick Diaz’s well-being. However, before all this, during his prime days, Diaz was a different beast and held his brother Nate to a very high regard.
When Nick Diaz talked about his younger brother in 2011
Nick Diaz entered the UFC as a 20-year-old, gaining attention for his unapologetic personality, gangster attitude, and willingness to fight anyone. His fighting style relied on relentless boxing combinations, taunting confidence, elite endurance, and jiu-jitsu threats during scrambles.

His first major win came against ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler, which established Diaz as a durable and must-watch fighter. His brother, Nate Diaz, joined UFC through The Ultimate Fighter and carried a similar legacy forward. Both brothers were often seen together, supporting each other in their respective corners. In an old video, Nick talked candidly about his relationship with his brother.
My brother is the most important thing to me. Probably more important than anything. That’s why I pushed forward and did so good.

Nick Diaz’s final prime years were largely lost following a lengthy five-year marijuana-related suspension. This halted his momentum, and he blamed the UFC and others for the harsh treatment towards him. Some fighters who took steroids and other PEDs received shorter suspensions than that.
During that period, he stayed in shape, trained regularly, and focused on coaching other fighters, remaining connected to the sport. His long-awaited UFC return in 2021 sparked major nostalgia, but the loss to Robbie Lawler marked a quiet end, and Diaz never fought again.
