Athletics’ star Nick Kurtz had the night of his life on Friday. The 22-year-old rookie smashed 4 home runs against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park, becoming just the 20th player in MLB history to achieve this incredible feat.
Kurtz, who is in contention for the 2025 American League Rookie of the Year award, started the game with a line drive down the left field in the 1st inning. In the 2nd inning, he would hit a 2-run opposite-field home run off Ryan Gusto to extend his team’s lead to 5-0.
In the 4th inning, his shot would bounce off the giant left field wall for a double, leaving him a triple shy of a cycle. Kurtz’s 2nd home run of the night came in the 6th inning off Nick Hernandez as he crushed another ball in left field.
Kaleb Ort would become the third victim of Kurtz in the 8th inning as the A’s star hit the ball in the right field this time. By the time he came to bat in the 9th inning, Kurtz was 5-for-5 for the day with 3 home runs, with his team leading 12-2.
In the 9th inning, Kurtz made MLB history as he found the decks again off position player Cooper Hummel. A 3-run shot from him made it a 15-2 game for the Athletics and made him just the 20th player in MLB history to hit 4 home runs in one game. He eventually finished the day going 6-for-6 with 4 home runs, 8 RBI, and 19 total bases.

This is the 2nd time this year that a player has hit 4 home runs in a game. Almost 3 months ago, in April, Arizona Diamondbacks star Eugenio Suarez hit 4 home runs against the Atlanta Braves.
His team, however, would ultimately lose the game 8-7. Before Suarez’s feat, the last time a player managed to hit 4 home runs in one game was in 2017 when J.D. Martinez hit 4 homers for the D-backs against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
