Nick Kyrgios has now censured none other than Andy Murray, who used to be his friend. During his playing days, Murray used to defend the Aussie when he often landed in hot water because of his controversial on-court antics.

Kyrgios made his return to tennis after 18 months this year at the Brisbane International, but his first match win did not come before the Miami Open. Since his Miami Open second-round defeat, the 30-year-old featured in only one doubles match, which he played alongside Gael Monfils at the Citi Open.

The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up recently sat for an interview for The Unscripted Show podcast with Josh Mansour, where, among other topics, he also talked about the relationship with Murray.

I wouldn’t even know if he’s a friend anymore. I guess he’s just like a colleague. We used to be closer. He was one of the people that was very supportive of me through there. But now we kind of don’t talk as much. I wanted him on a podcast, and he acted too important. So there’s your truth. It’s like ‘bro, find some time.’

Murray called time on his career at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and nearly four months later, he joined his longtime rival Novak Djokovic‘s team as his coach. But the partnership lasted not more than six months because the 24-time Grand Slam champion was not making deep runs or winning titles. Murray, at present, is enjoying spending his time on golf courses and is not thinking of being on the move again by joining the coaching team of another player.

Nick Kyrgios on Daniil Medvedev’s time violation controversy

Daniil Medvedev lost his cool once again at the chair umpire when he was given a time violation. He was once again tested by Learner Tien, his new rival, against whom he had previously lost two matches, including the Australian Open second round.

Amidst the sweltering Shanghai heat and tough competition from the 19-year-old, frustrations got the better of the Russian ace, and he lost his temper when umpire Mohamed Lahyani gave him the time violation. Medvedev referenced Rafael Nadal during his altercation with the umpire, arguing that he always waited for the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s serves.

Nick Kyrgios, during the aforementioned podcast, made his feelings known about Medvedev’s clash with the umpire and his Nadal example.

Rafa is like he’s known for just dragging out the times. Like, bro, there’s been times where he’s literally taken a minute and a half between points and no one says a word, but then, like as soon as you’re 26 seconds or 20, they’re like, ‘Oh, code violation, loss of serve.’ And I’m like, ‘Brother, like, is there any like discretion here or is it just like Rafa can just do whatever he wants?’…  It’s a thing. Yeah. Like, but look, I get it. He’s one of the greatest ever played Nadal, but at the same time, it’s like you can’t take that long.

The 2021 US Open champion met Nadal six times, winning only one match. The Spaniard hung up his racket after Spain’s defeat to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Davis Cup.

After beating Tien, the 29-year-old knocked out Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals, before losing to eventual runner-up Arthur Rinderknech in the semifinals. The former World No.1 has not yet clinched a title since lifting his career’s first clay-court trophy at the 2023 Italian Open.

He is in Almaty for the ATP 250 tournament. The second seed will lock horns with Tristan Schoolkate or Adam Walton in the second round.
