Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic
There is no denying that the Adria Tour was a lapse for the founder of the tournament Novak Djokovic. Since then, he has been at the receiving end of the criticism. After two months of the disastrous tour, Nick Kyrgios has fired back again at Novak.
What prompted the response from Kyrgios?
It was not out of the blue that the Australian decided to slam Djokovic. Novak’s comments may put you in a position where you too may slam him.
The World No.1 said in an interview with Fox Sports, “I don’t think I’ve done anything bad, to be honest. I do feel sorry for people that were infected. Do I feel guilty for anybody that was infected from that point onward in Serbia, Croatia, and the region? Of course not. It’s like a witch hunt, to be honest. How can you blame one individual for everything?”
The Adria tour was a warning not only for the tennis world but also for everyone else. Despite precautions and temperature checks the virus-infected players. Yet Novak has the audacity to say that he will host it again if given a chance. The Serbian says he had no sense of guilt for all those who ended up getting infected. Amongst the people infected was Borna Coric’s pregnant wide, Novak’s wife, and even his coach.
Why does Nick call the players “albatrosses”
Nick Kyrgios has quoted the group as albatrosses taking reference from the famous poem, “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
The albatross in the poem is a sign of ill luck or bad omen. It has since been used as symbolism for a bad omen or bad luck. Kyrgios has thus called out the players as a group of albatrosses.
The Adria Tour was called off as soon as Grigor Dimitrov was tested positive for COVID-19.
However, Novak Djokovic will now be seen at the Cincinnati Open and the US Open. While Kyrgios will take the measures of precaution and has decided to skip the hard court season.
