It looks like Nick Kyrgios’ injury nightmares are over after eighteen months on the sideline. The Aussie might be set to make his return to professional tennis next year after playing just one match in two years. Currently, training hard and finding his game rhythm ahead of a comeback, he admits the feeling is amazing.

The 29-year-old was restricted to just one singles match at the start of the 2023 season due to knee and wrist injuries. He has undergone three surgeries and looked in doubt whether he would return to the court. The Aussie was written off after he turned tennis analyst and commentator, featuring on Tennis Channel, ESPN, and BBC.

During his time away, he began a tennis podcast, Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios. He featured the likes of Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka, with more emphasis on mental health struggles among players. Despite all this, Kyrgios never left the sport. Last month, he announced his comeback to tennis might be at the 2025 Australian Open.

In a recent interview, the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up opened up about how he feels getting in shape for 2025. He revealed that it is a miracle to be back on the court after almost two years away.

Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years. I played that amazing year in 2022. Then at the finals in Wimbledon and US Open, that’s when I started feeling some issues in my wrist. I had that wrist reconstruction and now I’m feeling amazing. It was a 15 miracle per cent chance that I was going to get back to playing at this level and here we are. To get back out there in front of the home fans is going to be sick.

Kyrgios has won seven tour-level titles in his career, all of which came between 2016 and 2022. His best year on tour was 2016, when he won three titles all on hard courts.

The 29-year-old will return to the court at the Australian Open with a protected ranking. Though he remains an unlikely contender for the Grand Slam title, Kyrgios believes he has won by just playing on the court again.

I’ve already won in my eyes. Now everything I do on the tennis court, whether I win a match or a tournament or anything like that, is going to be a bonus.

The Australian Open is scheduled to start on January 12. In Kyrgios’ last appearance at Melbourne Park, he reached the second round, losing in four sets to eventual finalist Daniil Medvedev.
