Does Novak Djokovic, at 37, still have the energy he needs to add a few more Grand Slam titles to his trophy cabinet? Nick Kyrgios doesn’t know the answer but praised Djokovic for making an appearance at Wimbledon even after not gaining his full fitness back after the surgery on his knee.
Djokovic suffered a meniscus tear when he was in Paris for the French Open. After the surgery, he came to London a few weeks later to start training and was unsure whether to play Wimbledon or not.
And though he did play and reached back-to-back finals at the SW19, Spanish youngster Carlos Alcaraz came out on top in three straight sets to become the Wimbledon champion for the second time. Kyrgios made his observations about the game and specifically discussed whether Djokovic still has it it him to play at the highest level and win trophies.
Tim (Henman) and I had this conversation, a conversation that every tennis fan needs to have: is there one last Grand Slam tournament left for Djokovic? With Alcaraz and Sinner and obviously two losses in a row in the Wimbledon final, does Djokovic still have enough energy to win another Grand Slam tournament?Nick Kyrgios told the BBC
Kyrgios, who played just one match since October 2022 due to his struggle with multiple injuries, has taken the job of a commentator. For the past two weeks, the Aussie ‘Bad Boy’ sat behind the BBC microphone to cover the event at SW19.
Nick Kyrgios backs Carlos Alcaraz to win more Grand Slam titles than Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic is the player with the most Grand Slam titles and many fans and pundits from the tennis world believe Carlos Alcaraz would be the one to challenge that record. Nick Kyrgios also has the same opinion but has warned the young Spaniard about his possible biggest enemy- injuries.
The biggest enemy he’ll have is his body. How healthy can he stay? I think he’ll have upwards of 15 slams for sure. He could look to get to Novak’s record.Nick Kyrgios told the BBC
Even the Big 3 couldn’t win four Grand Slam titles like Alcaraz before turning 22. He also became the second player to win four titles in his first four Grand Slam finals in the Open Era and the youngest player to win two back-to-back Grand Slam titles in the same season by clinching the French Open and the Wimbledon.
