Mensik is truly something special. Not just to have such composure against the greatest of all time on such a stage, but the fact he’s just 19…this is a truly special kid with plenty of potential to do big things.

Beating Novak Djokovic was the hardest task in tennis, says Jakub Mensik
Mensik defeated the only six players out of a possible seven to claim the Miami Open title. The Czech Republic teenager earned a walkover in the fourth round when compatriot Tomas Machac withdrew before getting the better of 17th seed Arthur Fils in the quarter-finals. After defeating Novak Djokovic, he revealed it was the hardest task for him in tennis.

There is no harder task in tennis than to beat him in the finals. But of course I felt really great and it’s my time, so I just tried to focus on the match like I did before in previous rounds.

Mensik will hope to build on the momentum and confidence he has gotten from his victory in Miami and perhaps have a shot at another big title in the clay season. The next Masters 1000 tournament is the Monte Carlo Open, which begins on the 6th of April.
