Novak Djokovic reaches a new milestone

Novak Djokovic has returned to the Miami Open after six years. Djokovic is tied with Andre Agassi for a record 6 titles in this tournament. After facing opening round defeats in his previous two tournaments at Qatar and Indian Wells, Djokovic delivered an impressive straight-set victory over Rinky Hijikata in the opening round of the Miami Open, bageling his opponent in the first set.

I’ve had plenty of time since I lost in Indian Wells. It’s been two weeks, so I had plenty of time to work on my game. I think we’ve done a really good job. Obviously it’s just the first match, but the way I felt on court and the way I played is really encouraging.

Novak Djokovic said in the post-match interview

Marking his 410th win in a Masters 1000 tournament, Djokovic is now tied with Rafael Nadal for the most number of ATP Masters 1000 wins. The Serbian will face Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the next round of the tournament. This will mark their first meeting on court.

Nick Kyrgios’s and Novak Djokovic’s response to the PTAP lawsuit

Nick Kyrgios is a part of the 12 current and former players who have filed the lawsuit along with the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), the tennis organization founded by Vasek Pospisil and Novak Djokovic. This 163-page lawsuit has been filed against tennis governing bodies addressing issues such as prize money, the tennis schedule, rankings, ball changes, and doping cases.

Kyrgios feels that players “don’t get heard”. He called the action taken by the PTPA “special,” as he believes that this could foster positive changes in the tennis system.

Djokovic, however, has expressed that he didn’t feel the need to sign the letter because he wants other players to step up. He added that he has been very active in tennis politics. Djokovic didn’t shy away from revealing that there were certain aspects of the lawsuit that he didn’t agree with. He, however, hasn’t revealed which issues raised by the PTPA he didn’t support.

As of now, the ATP has rejected the premise of the claims of this lawsuit. Several top tennis players, like Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, and Aryna Sabalenka, have spoken about how they were unaware of this lawsuit until it became public and have expressed their lack of support over it.
