Nick Kyrgios will make his long-awaited return to the ATP Tour at the Brisbane International. The Australian star, who has played just one match in more than two years, had earlier revealed that he plans to take part in the 2025 Australian Open.
The 29-year-old has been sidelined since the 2023 US Open quarterfinals after sustaining wrist and knee injuries. Last year, he suffered a knee issue that required surgery and forced him to withdraw from the 2023 Australian Open. His injury problems persisted, which ruled him out of the French Open too.
Kyrgios’ last competitive match came at the 2023 Stuttgart Open, where he lost in the first round. The Aussie’s absence from the court led him to transition into broadcasting, featuring as a commentator for ESPN, BBC, and Tennis Channel.
The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up also started the ‘Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios‘ podcast which focuses on players’ mental health. That said, Kyrgios has decided to return to tennis and has already confirmed his intentions to play at the 2025 Australian Open.
However, before he the Melbourne Major, he is set to compete at the Brisbane International. He has stated that he was excited to be back on the court and was looking forward to swinging the racket once again.
The Brisbane International has always been a great event and I have had some amazing memories there, particularly when I won the event in 2018. I am feeling fit and healthy, and I am excited for my return to tennis following some time out of the sport. It has been a long journey of recovery to be where I am today; one of the goals I had set was to be able to play during the Aussie summer, so I am excited that I get to start in Brisbane which is one of my favorite tournaments.
