The upcoming 2024 NFL season is two months away, and with the Baltimore Ravens firmly positioned as contenders, there have been debates about why the team hasn’t been able to perform in the postseason as they do in the regular season. Many have held star quarterback Lamar Jackson responsible, believing he has yet to prove himself in the playoffs.
The recent episode of FS1’s ‘First Things First‘ highlighted the disparity between the Ravens’ regular season and playoff results. Jackson is reportedly ranked third in the best winning percentage list, behind Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady. However, when observed from the playoff point of view, his team didn’t score more than 20 points in all of the postseason games they played.
Chris Broussard argued that even the two-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning went through this stint like Jackson. He claimed if the quarterback succeeded in winning the Super Bowl, the criticism would stop altogether.
Nick Wright slams Lamar Jackson’s playoff woes
In reference to the quarterback losing a 2-4 record in the playoff, sports analyst Nick Wright disagreed with Broussard’s stance and criticized Jackson, saying his playoff meltdown is worse than Manning’s.
It’s worse, though, than Peyton’s thing. Peyton [Manning] made 15 trips to the playoffs; three times, the fewest points they scored that season were in playoff games. For Lamar, it’s every single year it’s happened. Every single year, the Ravens’ fewest points that season are in their playoff loss.Nick Wright said
Wright backed his argument by comparing Jackson’s playoff output to that of Dak Prescott, where the latter has a better completion percentage than the former. Even though the whole criticism around Prescott is based on his playoff inability, Wright claimed Jackson would “kill for those playoff numbers.” He also mentioned that the worst game Jackson in a whole year has been in the playoff.
I said it.. during last year and people didn’t like it, I will say this again there is an element of Rockets James Harder for Lamar until further notice.Nick Wright added
Previously, the Ravens’ quarterback had acknowledged his misfortune in the postseason and even claimed to have put a chip on his shoulder for the Super Bowl after the poor loss to the reigning Super Bowl champion in the AFC championship game. Remains to be seen how they fare this season around.
