The Kansas City Chiefs’ defeat in Super Bowl LIX has left veteran tight end Travis Kelce at a pivotal moment in his career. After chasing history, aiming for a third straight championship, Kelce now faces tough decisions about his future in the NFL.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense shattered the Chiefs’ title hopes, and Kelce has since admitted he needs time to reflect. Disappointed by the loss, he acknowledged that retirement is on his mind, though no decision has been made yet.
Two weeks ago, FOX Sports analyst Nick Wright noted that Super Bowl LIX would be Travis Kelce’s last NFL game. However, fast forward, he has changed his opinion, he now believes that Kelce won’t walk away just yet.
I just don’t see him going out on the lowest moment of his career, which that game was. So I think he comes back for one more year, and I think he is effective in key spots for them, even though he obviously is at a totally different place of his career.

With free agency approaching, the timing of Kelce’s decision carries financial weight. The Chiefs are giving him space, reportedly setting a soft deadline rather than rushing a choice.
Despite offensive struggles last season, Wright remains optimistic about 2025. The rise of young talents Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy could reinvigorate the Chiefs’ attack, potentially allowing Kelce to thrive in a more defined role.
Nick Wright expected the Chiefs to turn the game around in the second half
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs had no response for the Eagles in the Super Bowl. But longtime Chiefs fan Nick Wright refused to give up. He held onto hope for a historic comeback, even when the team trailed 24-0 at halftime.

Wright believed Mahomes could pull off something greater than Tom Brady’s famous 28-3 comeback against the Falcons. During a sit-down interview with Dan Patrick, he shared how his mind immediately returned to Mahomes’ first playoff start.
One of the downsides, Dan, to a long halftime is you have enough time to walk around, and I had a, gosh darn it, I think addicts call it a ‘Moment of Clarity’. And I was like, ‘This whole thing started down 24-0. The first Super Bowl they ever won, down 24-0, and then go on a run. And now down 24-0, with Mr. 28-3 in the booth to pull off the three-peat!’
Nick Wright told Dan Patrick
In that game, the Chiefs trailed the Texans 24-0 before roaring back with 41 unanswered points to win 51-31. They went on to win the Super Bowl that year. With that memory in mind, Wright convinced himself another magical moment was incoming. Instead, the Chiefs collapsed. The game was ugly. They lost 40-22, and at one point, they were down 40-6.
