The Buffalo Bills are heading towards the most crucial game of the season, or probably in Josh Allen’s career. A win would ensure his name for his first-ever NFL MVP and advance to his first Super Bowl appearance, whereas a loss would tie him with Aaron Rodgers for the lowest number of playoff wins. Nick Wright seems to be convinced the star quarterback wouldn’t advance beyond the AFC Championship game.
Just days after questioning Allen’s ability to handle pressure on the field, the FS1 analyst has returned with a sharp critique of the Bills quarterback ahead of the highly anticipated conference championship game. Drawing a parallel between Patrick Mahomes and Allen, Wright undermined the latter’s credibility to overcome the huge statistical gap with the former.
“He’ll never, NEVER be able to be called the best quarterback in the league as long as Patrick’s playing. The gap will be too big.”

Wrights’ comment came in light of Allen’s struggle against Mahomes-led Chiefs in the postseason to an extent where he holds a 3-0 record after losing three of the four times they have reached the playoffs in the span of five years. Those five years, where the six-time Pro Bowler won three Super Bowl victories, including two back-to-back. If Allen failed this season, he would be down 4-0 which Wright believes is too significant to overcome.
Nick Wright highlights Josh Allen’s high emotional stakes in AFC championship against Patrick Mahomes
In all the time that Allen has faced up against Mahomes-led Chiefs in the postseason, there is this one time that he came remarkably close to defeating his biggest rivals– the 2022 playoffs, which was also an AFC championship game at Kansas City home stadium like this time. Despite completing 27 out of his 37 pass attempts for 329 yards and four touchdowns, they failed.
“In that stadium, he had the greatest game of his career,” said Wright on Saturday, emphazing the emotional burden on Allen while facing the Chiefs again in the same venue where he fell short despite playing a game of his lifetime.
However, if the Bills pull off a victory, they would win the first Super Bowl of franchise history– according to the bold prophecy of Wright. He predicted the team that will win between the Chiefs and Bills would also win the Vince Lombardi Trophy, although he is convinced Allen will not succeed. It might be an indirect way of predicting his home team’s success.
