- Nick Wright proposed a controversial All-Star format featuring a Black vs. White matchup to generate fan interest.
- Fans reacted with mixed feelings, questioning the implications of such a suggestion in the current political climate.
- Bill Simmons criticized Adam Silver for not addressing the NBA's underlying issues, despite the league's financial success.
With days to go before the new USA vs. World format plays out in the 2026 All-Star Game, the pressure is still on Commissioner Adam Silver to ensure the weekend is a hit.
Last season, they tried something different but ended up with what may have been the worst All-Star weekend in league history. The outrage after that colossal disappointment led Silver to admit that they got it wrong and scrapped the format.
It seems they were forced to listen to the USA vs. World formats the likes of Charles Barkley and Stephen A. Smith had been suggesting for a while. The commissioner was reluctant at the time, but now cannot help it.
The events are boring at best, and no matter what the league tried, such as bringing in creators last season, it did not help. Nick Wright believes there is one way to make it a surefire success.
And we just have to say, you know what? PC headlines be damned. White guys vs. Black guys. Luka, Joker, Flagg, Reaves, Knueppel against Wemby, whomever… I’m telling you right now. Guys would play hard. There would be a real edge to the game. It would get a lot of attention.

The only NBA All-Star Game fix that @getnickwright thinks would actually work at this point 😂 pic.twitter.com/Z0snvhdMvi

The longtime analyst believes this will create unwanted controversy, but that is what the league needs at this moment, as it struggles to generate fan interest.
Fans react to Nick Wright’s shocking suggestion to spruce up All-Star game
Such suggestions are surely going to leave fans dumbfounded. Even The Ringer host Bill Simmons could not bring himself to listen to this, as he knows this can open a can of worms.
Fans, too, were left with their eyebrows raised after listening to Nick Wright give what is arguably the most controversial suggestion, particularly considering the current political climate in the country.
They also wondered how mixed-race players would be featured. But surprisingly, some believed this was a good idea. Check out examples of those varied responses below.
This would be an insane circus 🤣. Imagine the discourse on X. IMO Team White would need a bit more bench depth to be competitive.

This is simultaneously hilarious and would 100% work

Mixed players play a half with each or what???
— 🧊 ᅠ (@OGICEY) February 11, 2026
Exactly the last thing this country needs right now. I hope he was joking.

🤡 That’s not “fixing” the All-Star Game, that’s turning it into a headline circus
— Guyman (@real_manguy) February 11, 2026
This game would genuinely be the most legendary game in NBA history
— BONESAW 🕊️ (@BonesawMD) February 11, 2026
The discourse around it will be so disgusting and disgraceful
I'd like to see it
We did this several times in high school. you get max effort but you also get max slurs and a guaranteed physical altercation. Let’s not
— Astead (@AsteadWH) February 11, 2026
What a moron. Let's cause racial tensions for ratings!
— Lance (@Lance91111) February 11, 2026
Adam Silver would never, in his right mind, agree to do something like this, as it would reopen centuries-old wounds. The country would also head in a direction from which it has been fighting to get away for a long time.
Bill Simmons calls out Adam Silver for not fixing the NBA’s real problems
Even though Nick Wright was giving possibly the most bizarre suggestion to help Adam Silver fix the NBA’s lack of excitement during the All-Star game, host Bill Simmons believes the reality is grim.

It’s the first time I’ve really wondered, like, do we have the right guy running the league? Because he doesn’t seem interested in actually fixing real problems that everybody can see.
Bill Simmons said
The longtime analyst was referring to how Adam Silver has used the billions in media rights money, the NBA Cup, and references to global superstars as examples of why the league is successful.

However, Simmons pointed out that the commissioner is not working on the underlying issues prevalent in the league, such as the ever-increasing injuries, fatigue, and poor on-court performance, all of which have eroded fan interest.
He wonders if Adam Silver is the right man to lead the league into the next era once the veteran superstars retire. Simmons hopes the league brings out fixes to remedy its core problems.
