Nick Young revealed Stephen Curry was emotional while losing finals MVP
Despite being the only unanimous MVP, Stephen Curry faced a lot of difficulty in winning his first finals MVP. As he was teammates with Kevin Durant, the star lost the opportunity to win for the third time in 2018. Recently, Curry’s former teammate, Nick Young shared a story about the star’s emotions during the time.
During an episode of Gil’s Arena, Nick Young revealed that as the team went back-to-back, Stephen Curry wanted to win finals MVP as Durant won the year before. However, considering the series ended with a sweep, Curry’s poor performance in the third game cost him the award.
Locker room Steph head was down, damn near tears. Man he wanted to win that b*tch.

Young further added that Durant even tried to give the award to Curry. However, Durant completely outshined Curry as he dropped a 43-point double-double in the third game while Curry had a poor shooting night. Curry did have the better performance in the fourth game, but Durant had already earned the title up until then.
Despite having three championships and a couple of regular season MVPs, Curry was still short of the finals MVP trophies. But the guard certainly redeemed himself as he won the trophy while claiming the championship title without Durant in 2022. The star was the clear winner that year.
Stephen Curry admitted being upset by his performance in the 2018 finals
Curry was at his prime in the late 2010s. The star was the main man of the Warriors before Durant joined the team. The guard even won the regular season MVP in 2015 but lost the finals MVP to Andre Iguodala during his first championship.
Last year, Curry sat with Warriors then general manager Bob Myers for an exclusive interview. During the interview, Curry opened up about his frustration during the time. The greatest shooter was disappointed by his inconsistent performance and eventually about losing the finals MVP.
We just won, and I was down on myself because of how I played, and everybody took it as a context like, 'He just kicked the Finals MVP thing away.' I really thought about it once or twice, but I was really upset because of that.Stephen Curry in an exclusive interview with Bob Myers
As the team was on the verge of sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers, Curry was getting asked about the finals MVP in between the finals. The Warriors guard stated that it affected him and he started to think about the outcomes beforehand which made the loss even worse.
