In Short
  • Bam Adebayo scored a career-high 83 points against the Washington Wizards, setting multiple records.
  • Victor Wembanyama's unimpressed reaction to Adebayo's achievement drew criticism from former NBA player Nick Young.
  • Adebayo responded to Dwyane Wade's comments about the lack of buzz in Miami, emphasizing the team's recent success.

Bam Adebayo put in a performance for the ages against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. When the Miami Heat took on the Wizards at the Kaseya Center, little did anyone know that history was going to be made.

Known for his defensive abilities. Bam Adebayo was picked as the 14th overall pick by the Heat in the 2017 NBA draft. He has made it to two NBA Finals, been selected as an All-Star three times, and was selected in the NBA All-Defensive First team in 2024.

Currently in his ninth season in the NBA, Adebayo has breached the 20 points per game average just once in his career and has had a career-high of 41 points.

Without Tyler Herro in the lineup, it was on Adebayo to take up the scoring burden. The Heat center stunned the NBA world and recorded a career-high 83 points to go along with nine rebounds. He scored 31 points in the opening quarter, breaking the Heat record for points in any quarter. He finished the half with 43 points, a team record for any half.

While it was a historic achievement, Lakers fans and others were left unimpressed by Adebayo’s performance. Among the NBA players who were not very impressed with Adebayo was the French wonderkid, Victor Wembanyama. The San Antonio Spurs center had a cold reaction when asked about Adebayo’s feat, and it struck some nerves.

Former NBA player Nick Young was not very happy with Wembanyama’s reaction and called him out on the Gilbert Arenas show for being biased against Americans.

He cried when he came back from down 24, this is crazy! He was not impressed with that, but he cried and was impressed with comebacks. You couldn’t believe you made a comeback against the Clippers? He hates Americans.

Over the last few years, there has been a growing number of European players in the NBA. Many analysts and former players are unhappy about how home-grown athletes are being sidelined by the more polished and developed International players. Therefore, there seems to be some animosity growing between the two sides; hence, it is not surprising to see Young go off on Wembanyama.

Nick Young slams Bam Adebayo for breaking Kobe Bryant’s 81-point record

If NBA fans had to guess one player to surpass Kobe Bryant‘s single-game points record of 81 points, no one would have named Bam Adebayo. While Adebayo made a career-high seven threes on Tuesday, he shot a record 36 out of 43 free throws, which would have definitely rubbed several fans and the NBA community the wrong way.

While Nick Young did criticize Wembanyama for his reaction, he did not hold back on Adebayo’s achievement.

All that records supposed to be broken? Hell no. Did you see that? The Wizards. Playing no defense. He nice, but he’s not 83 nice. Like, come on, man. Kobe probably rolling over in his grave right now. You see how he was going for that 74? Get out the game, you’re winning by 30. If I had 81, I would have stopped. I’m not trying to get fouled with one minute left. One minute left, up 30. They are triple-teaming him, and he still gets the ball.

The 36 free throws made by Adebayo were also an NBA record, breaking the previous mark of 28 held by Wilt Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley. Since Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game in 2006, only five players have breached the 70-point mark, but none of them have gotten to 80.

Bam Adebayo responds to Dwyane Wade’s “no buzz in Miami” comments

Dwyane Wade was critical of the Heat’s performances this season and took a shot at the veterans for creating no buzz in the city of Miami. But after a performance like that and extending the team’s winning streak to six games, there is sure to be a lot of buzz in the city.

Adebayo responded to Wade’s comments in his post-match press conference.

First of all this man talking about no buzz and he wants to be out. He 45. Take your a** to the house! I don’t know what he’s tryna to do, rile us up, he gotta understand we went through COVID, this a different time. All that said, a lot of buzz tonight, not only here, but in the association.

Adebayo and the Heat will be looking to continue their hot streak as they are scheduled to take on a struggling Milwaukee Bucks at the Kaseya Center on March 12.
