The Houston Texans have faced a massive setback as wide receiver Nico Collins has been placed on injury reserve. This means he will be out for a minimum of 4 weeks. He will be further evaluated weekly.
Nico Collins suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of the Houston Texans’ 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Head coach DeMeco Ryans informed the media that the team’s leading receiver is expected to be back on the November 10 game against the Detroit Lions.
Through 5 weeks, Nico Collins has 32 catches, 567 yards, and 3 touchdowns. He leads the Texans and has established himself as a key piece of the team’s offense.
Drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Collins established instant chemistry with quarterback C.J. Stroud last season. The duo dominated and have just gotten better with time.
Stefon Diggs will need to step up for the Texans during Collins’ absence
Houston is scheduled to face New England, Green Bay, Indianapolis, and the New York Jets in the coming 4 weeks. Despite Collins’ absence, the team stands a good chance of going 4-0 against these teams. With the top wideout out, this allows Tank Dell and Stefon Diggs to step up.
Diggs trails Collins in terms of stats as he has 31 receptions, 315 yards, and two touchdowns this season. Tank Dell has taken a step back this season owing to the presence of two star receivers in Collins and Diggs. This will be a great time for him to get back to performing at an elite level as he did last season.
This will be a great opportunity for Stefon Diggs to prove that he brings more than just drama to a team. Following allegations of his involvement with Cardi B, Diggs can restate all that noise by letting his game do the talking for him.
Houston is bound to miss Nico Collins, but the team will be fine considering the fixtures ahead of them and the abundance of weapons on their roster.
