Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison doubles down on Luka Doncic trade

Dallas Mavericks fans have endured the worst feelings possible ever since they traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Owner Patrick Dumont and GM Nico Harrison have borne the brunt of the frustrations from their fans.

Harrison faced death threats and a barrage of ‘Fire Nico’ chants numerous times. Dumont has been subjected to loud boos inside the very arena his team plays. As the current season turned into a disaster, those chants and boos have continued to fill American Airlines Center.

It has been more than two months since the trade took place, and the top executives appeared before the media once. Harrison gave his reasons to justify the trade, and Dumont took it one step further and took shots at Doncic’s drive, passion, conditioning and commitment.

When the Slovenian returned home, he dominated his former team, and the Lakers ensured their former superstar Anthony Davis could not influence the game. Now that the Mavericks are about to take part in the SoFi play-in tournament, reporters gathered at the facility to ask Nico Harrison about the team. Question no. 1 was if he had any regrets about the trade.

There’s no regrets on the trade. Part of my job is to do the best thing for the Mavericks, not only today, but also in the future, and some of the decisions I’m going to make are going to be unpopular. That’s my job, and I have to stand by it.

The general manger understands fans have not appreciated the situation. But he believes they will come around once his plan works out. Harrison believes the current iteration of this team now has what it takes to win an NBA title.

Fans shake their heads over Nico Harrison comments

Dallas Mavericks fans have been trying to find some solace ever since the trade took place. But when Nico Harrison doubled down on his decision, they could not stand his words. They believe he is delusional to think that the current team with their injury problems can stay healthy enough to win a title.

They also are furious after the GM clarified that he is doing whatever is best for the team. That is, he does not care if fans are upset now. He believes once the team is firing on all cylinders, they will win. Irate fans took to social media to vent their frustrations. Check out examples of those comments below.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon and other reporters asked Nico Harrison a variety of questions. In what would be a closed-door Q&A session without the presence of cameras, reporters asked Harrison if he did not believe the Dallas Mavericks would win a title with Luka Doncic.

His cited Anthony Davis’ example while expanding on that belief. He feels Davis’ abilities on both ends of the floor are more valuable to the Mavericks’ NBA title chances. If he sets the tone and other players follow, the team can win without having to enter a shooting contest every night. Considering how fans are annoyed with him, hopefully that theory pans out.
