Anthony Davis
The Dallas Mavericks played against the Houston Rockets on Saturday afternoon. Notably, Mavs’ new star Anthony Davis made his long-awaited debut for his side. Davis shined for the Mavs, showcasing his dominance in the game. However, he did not end the game as he must have wanted it to: with an injury to his ‘quad area.’
In an unexpected move that brought Luka Doncic west, the big man was dealt from the Los Angeles Lakers to Dallas last week. In addition, as he shuffled into the basket to line up against Rockets center Alperen Sengun in the third quarter, Davis seemed to sustain an injury. After the game, Davis shared his thoughts on the injury.
My leg got tight, like a little spasm. I came back to try to get it loose while still dealing with the abdominal strain. But I managed to loosen it up, and it’s nothing serious. I’m fine… Groin—quad kind of area. It’s like right in there.
Anthony Davis told reporters

Where?: "Groin—quad kind of area. It's like right in there."
Before his injury, the 31-year-old Davis was demonstrating why the Mavericks’ front staff thought he could take Doncic’s place as the team’s face. As the Mavs led the fourth-place club in the Western Conference 83-75, he finished the match with 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks in 31 minutes.
The Mavs’ GM Nico Harrison will surely be worried about his status. Also, Davis has a long injury list throughout his NBA career. Given that he was recovering from an abdominal injury that kept him out of five games, Davis is no stranger to injury problems. In the last five seasons, he has only made one appearance in more than 56 games. Hence, it remains to be seen how Davis handles his minutes going forward into the season.
Mavs HC Jason Kidd provides Anthony Davis injury update
In addition to missing his first two games with the Mavericks, Anthony Davis had already missed his last two games with the Lakers because of an abdominal ailment. Now, after exiting the game early against the Rockets, he seems to have injured his ‘quad’ area as well. Given that, Mavs head coach, Jason Kidd gave a ‘soft’ update on the stars’ injury.
I guess alright. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.
Jason Kidd said
Anthony Davis appears to have suffered a non-contact groin injury. Still awaiting official word from the Dallas Mavericks about a further update, if necessary.

The Mavs fans will be hoping Davis’ injury is nothing serious and just an early precaution. Especially with how the tensions have been around the trade lately. The trade is still a heated topic, though. For trading a young superstar just eight months after a Finals run for a 31-year-old with a long history of injuries, Mavs’ general manager Nico Harrison has been under fire.
