The Denver Nuggets should be glad that they have a star like Nikola Jokic on their roster. Jokic has been nothing but a menace against the opposition ever since he arrived in the NBA. He has one of the best NBA careers as a center, winning 4 NBA MVP awards already. To add to this, Jokic has had a monumental 2024-25 NBA season and is on the hunt to win another MVP award.

Notably, Brooklyn Nets star D’Angelo Russell has showered Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic with accolades for his outstanding play this season. Russell, who is a huge fan of Jokic, stated on The Backyard Podcast that the Nuggets center is his obvious choice to win MVP this year and should already have a few MVP awards.

I’ll say this—Jokic is going to win MVP. He should be on his fifth MVP by now. And it is what it is. That’s where I’m standing.

D’Angelo Russell said

With an average of 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game—almost a triple-double on top of efficiency—Jokic has been a dominant force throughout the season. Another top Guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who has also had an outstanding season, is his main rival for the MVP award.

While guiding the Thunder to one of their best regular season ever, SGA is averaging 32.7 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.0 rebounds. However, Jokic seems to be getting the plaudits from the NBA analysts, many players are tilting towards SGA to claim the title this year, but not Russell.

Jokic and SGA are clear front-runners for the award this season, followed by the likes of Jayson Tatum, LeBron James, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Nevertheless, only time will tell who claims the award between these stars.

Aaron Gordon made an important admission about Nikola Jokic’s future with the Nuggets

With the Denver Nuggets firing their successful head coach, Michael Malone, in the middle of the season, a lot of questions were raised. Especially about their star Nikola Jokic’s future with the Nuggets. Notably, Jokic’s teammate, Aaron Gordon, shed some light on this in an interview with CBS’s Ashley Nicole Moss during the Playoffs.

She raised the subject of Jokic’s potential future with the squad. Gordon, however, was adamant that there was no need for concern.

I don’t think Jokic is the type to want out. [Jokic] doesn’t want out, he wants in. He wants to go through it. I don’t think Denver has to worry about that.

Aaron Gordon said

Jokic’s performance for Denver against the Clippers in their playoff opener should also encourage supporters to “worry” less and appreciate their star’s skill on the field more. However, it is Jokic and his teammates who have to worry about their opposition. The Clippers performed admirably in Game 2 of this series, going 1-1 into Game 3.

Nikola Jokic makes the ‘top 3’ finalists for the NBA MVP award

The league unveiled the three contenders for this season’s NBA MVP award on Sunday, including the Denver Nuggets standout. Nikola Jokic is joined on the finalist list by Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After winning in 2018–19 and 2019–20, Antetokounmpo will be looking for his third MVP award; nevertheless, betting odds indicate that the Greek superstar has a very slim chance of winning. According to sportsbooks, Jokic and the 2024–25 scoring champion and betting favorite Gilgeous-Alexander will face off in a two-man contest.

Jokic has broken several milestones this season and created new records. On the other hand, SGA has been his side’s sole performer in attack, who averaged a franchise-record 32.7 points per game. SGA and the Thunder won a league-high 68 games this season.
