All eyes were on the Nuggets star Nikola Jokic after he dropped a historic performance in his previous matchup against the Washington Wizards. In this game as well Jokic did not disappoint. He backed it up with another monstrous performance against the Hawks.
Jokic led the team to win over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday with 48 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists. He left the game with more than two minutes left, and if he had played the entire game, he very likely would have scored another 50 points, giving Denver a resounding victory. He has been exceeding expectations for his side lately.
His recent performances have stunned the NBA community comparing him to NBA greats like Wilt Chamberlain. One fan wrote on X, “These are Wilt Chamberlain type numbers in point and rebounds.” Jokic was averaging 31.4 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 10.3 assists per game going into Sunday. He was also shooting 56.1 percent from the field and 50.6 percent from three.

Jokic’s performance also created NBA history. Jokic’s final line of 48 points, 14 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals has only been accomplished four times in NBA history. This is according to StatHead from Basketball Reference. Among these were two by his Nuggets teammate, Russell Westbrook (2015, 17), one by Jokic himself in 2022, and one by Larry Bird in 1992.

Nikola Jokic is showing no signs of stopping in the NBA this season. He has dropped back-to-back masterclass’ in the league. After dropping 56 points on the Washington Wizards, he now dropped 48 points on the Atlanta Hawks. In December, Jokic is scoring close to 40 points per game on average, along with 15 rebounds and nine assists. This has left NBA fans in awe.

Even though other players are having outstanding seasons, Jokic’s MVP case from the first two months of the season is difficult to refute. That said, up next for the Serbian superstar and his Nuggets side face the Los Angeles Clippers on home court.
