Nishesh Basavareddy, the American-born teenager, has been garnering the attention of the tennis community. The 19-year-old, after claiming several trophies in his junior career, dreamed of turning professional, which he finally fulfilled on December 5, 2024.
After recording his first ATP match at the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, Basavareddy made headlines when the next year he made his debut in the main draw of the ATP event. At the Brisbane International, the youngster reached the first round but was defeated by Gael Monfils.
Next week, Basavareddy beat several seeded players and reached his first ATP semifinal, at the ASB Classic, making him the youngest American since Reilly Opelka (in 2016) to reach the semifinal of a hard-court ATP Event.
Although Basavareddy played in the qualifying round of the 2024 US Open, he received a wildcard for the 2025 Australian Open, only to draw against 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the first round.
