“Greatest champion in history,” Daniil Medvedev applauds Novak Djokovic after defeating him

Fourth seed at Nitto ATP Finals, Daniil Medvedev, defeated the top seed Novak Djokovic to earn his first semi-finals spot. Medvedev downed Djokovic 6-3, 6-3 at The O2 to secure a 2-0 lead in Group Tokyo 1970.
The Russian is looking to become the fourth player to lift this title after a win-loss debut of 3-0 in 2019. He hasn’t dropped a single set at this tournament and has maintained a serve rate of over 70% throughout.
Daniil suspects something was wrong with Novak, but is happy with the win

In his post-match conference, the 24-year-old applauded Nole for his consistency and close to ‘unbeatable’ form. The former labelled the latter “one of the greatest champions in the history.”
Further, Medvedev admitted that it was a “dream come true” to contend against Djokovic. He stated that when he was 8, he watched Nole compete and win Grand Slam titles. Daniil admiringly said, “He was still young,” when talking about the Serb’s performance at the Majors.
In addition, he stated that even though he was sure that Novak didn’t play his best in their match, he was “really happy to beat him.”
Moreover, Medvedev is the first Russian to reach the semi-finals at the year-end championship since Nikolay Davydenko lifted the trophy in 2009. The 4th seed will battle against Diego Schwartzman in 2 days and will look to secure a 3-0 lead.
