“Would be in jail if it was Mahomes” – No call by refs on Bucs defender who bulldozed Aidan O’Connell doesn’t sit well with fans

Raiders quarterbacks are falling like flies. Aidan O’Connell’s day in Miami ended early, after a late challenge from a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defender.
The Raiders faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their Week 14 fixture with only one aim in mind: to finally secure their third win of the season. O’Connell looked shaky from the first whistle, missing passes, fumbling a snap, and throwing an interception.
Despite the hiccups, O’Connell quarterback sneaked into the Buccaneers’ end zone to score the Raiders’ only touchdown of the day. By the time the third quarter rolled in, the Raiders had reduced the deficit to just four until the final moments.
After Mayfield turned the ball over to the Raiders, the Vegas team had a great chance to take the lead. However, on third and ten he was chased down by the Buccaneers’ blitz, which forced him to the sideline and throw the ball away. The pass reached wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, but the referee judged it incomplete.
??REFS ARE AWFUL??

100% late and a dirty hit.
No call from the refs.

Meanwhile, O’Connell was down on the ground in pain in front of the Buccaneers dugout. The replay showed Bucs defensive end Calijah Kancey pushed the former fourth-round pick.
Football fans surprised with referee for not penalizing Buccaneers’ defender for the late hit on Aidan O’Connell
Kancey’s hit was late, which made O’Connell fall awkwardly. The medical team rushed to the spot, and after initial treatment, they put an air cast on the 26-year-old’s left leg before carting him away.
The referee, on the other hand, did not find anything wrong with Kancey’s challenge. Football fans on social media were shocked to see the officials were cool by letting Kancey off the hook.
He would be in jail if it was mahomes

Aidan O'Connell got his knee torn up from a late hit that wasn't even flagged with ref looking right at it, if you're not named Mahomes in the NFL the defense can do anything they want to you after you throw the ball, NFL officiating is horrible

Imagine mahomes https://t.co/NsSmhjKwQo

This is some of the bullshit I’m talking about.

Late in the 3rd quarter, 3rd and short, one score game. No late hit call – that would have fucked up the narrative @DraftKings created. Instead of 1st and 10 in @Buccaneers territory, @Raiders are forced to punt.
Fuck the @NFL https://t.co/lKW9nhEj53
Anyone notice the refs have gotten worse since betting on games was allowed and DEI policies?

No respect at all! Young good QB with a broken leg from an illegal hit in the back. NFL (Not For Long!)

No call??!! You’ve got to be kidding me!! NFL, please fix your refs.

If that was Mahomes then it would have been in national news

Both of those defender’s would’ve been ejected if they did that to MAHOMES!!
— Gilbert Manuell (@Gilbaby1) December 9, 2024
If that was Mahomes, Allen, Purdy, etc the refs throw the flag

shocking news: the refs hate the raiders
— kyle (@Kyle0G) December 9, 2024
What's the answer to missed calls like this? Larger crew? I'd hate to have penalties reviewable, but it almost seems necessary at time – Perhaps coaches get 2 yellow challenge flags?
— the worm (@wormsforbrains) December 9, 2024
If that’s Herbert, Rogers, that gets called a late hit penalty 100%.

Not for the raiders though.
Desmond Ridder replaced O’Connell for the remainder of the game but barely made any impact. The Buccaneers pulled away with multiple touchdowns. First Mayfield handed the ball to Rachaad White for a three-yard endzone run and then hit Jalen McMillan with a 29-yard touchdown.
Sources: #Raiders fear QB Aidan O'Connell suffered a season-ending knee injury today vs Tampa Bay. He is undergoing additional testing to confirm the full severity.

But a tough year gets even tougher in Vegas as Desmond Ridder would be the next man up with four games left. pic.twitter.com/n36NQ9c9wN
The Buccaneers won 13-28, with Mayfield throwing 18 completions for 295 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 picks. White rushed 17 times with the ball for 90 yards and one score.
As for the Raiders, O’Connell had 11 completions for 104 yards and one INT before Ridder replaced him and threw 12 completions for 101 yards. Meyers caught 7 passes for 67 yards while running back Sincere McCormick had 15 carries for 78 yards.
