Ambati Rayudu’s brilliant 78 didn’t help as Chennai Super Kings got defeated by Punjab Kings by 11 runs on Monday, April 25 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

CSK responded with the openers Ruturaj Gaikwad playing a slow innings with 30 off 27 with 4 fours. It was Ambati Rayudu who played a big knock of 78 off 39 balls by smashing 7 fours and 6 sixes with an impressive strike rate of 200.

But in the 5th ball of the 18th over, Kagiso Rabada gave the huge blow to CSK. He bowled a slower bumper and it followed it up with a toe-crushing yorker around leg. Ambati Rayudu tried to whip it across the line but missed. It smashed his pads and deflected onto the stumps.

Rabindra Jadeja scored 21 off 16 while MS Dhoni scored 12 runs off 8 balls. But they failed to reach the target by 11 runs. Kagiso Rabada and Rishi Dhawan grabbed 2 wickets each while Sandeep Sharma and Arshdeep Singh took 1 wicket each.

In the match, CSK won the toss and decided to bowl first. PBKS captain and opener Mayank Agarwal played a slow innings by scoring 18 off 21 balls. But it was Shikhar Dhawan who with an impressive strike rate of 149.15 scored and unbeaten 88 runs from 59 balls by smashing 9 fours and 2 sixes.

He was also awarded the Player of the Match in the post-match ceremony. And he reached and broke some millstones. First, he surpassed Virat Kohli in scoring maximum run against a team (CSK). He also became the 2nd batsman after Kohli to reach 6000runs.

With this defeat, CSK have lost 6 in their 8 matches and are currently placed at the 9th position and are followed by Mumbai Indians who have lost straight 8th games.
