No preferential treatment for Messi over Salary cuts

Lionel Messi pockets nearly 100 million Euros every year from FC Barcelona in salary. This has put a huge strain on the finances of Barca due to the Coronavirus wiping away lot of their income from stadiums. Moreover, Bartomeu had given huge contracts to older players and also wasted money on transfers. All of this has come to haunt Barca as they need to reduce the wage bill or go bankrupt with debts.
We cannot make a tailor made suit for Messi – Tusquets

Carles Tusquets has replaced Bartomeu after his resignation as the interim president of Barcelona. Bartomeu failed in agreeing a deal with Barcelona players regarding the pay cuts for the season. However, Tusquets wants to see the pay cut through and said, “I think we can reach an agreement. It seems to me that there is a willingness to do so. We do not want to take money from anyone but to adjust salaries so we can pay them when possible – this is the solution we think is the most viable given the circumstances.
He added that Messi won’t get any special treatment and said, “We cannot make a tailor-made suit just for [Messi]. We can create different structures for similar cases but we cannot tailor-make deals for individuals. “I won’t get into specifics about Messi because we have to finish negotiations first. What I can say is that there is a willingness from Messi and his representatives.
The wage bill of Barcelona is the highest in the world and the club must look to reduce it with finances significantly hit by Coronavirus. Barca are set to lose 300 million Euros this season without fans being allowed to the stadium. So Barca would need all their players to co operate and agree a pay cut for the well being of the club.
