Jordan Love had previous experience of receiving big blows from Detroit Lions players. The Green Bay Packers succumbed to a 14-24 defeat against their NFC North rivals a month ago when he threw one interception and faced six pressures. So, he knew there would be similar treatment during the reverse fixture in Detroit.

Love wasn’t wrong. From the first whistle, Dan Campbell’s Lions looked as aggressive as they had been all year. Detroit took the lead after quarterback Jared Goff set up running back David Montgomery for a touchdown after six minutes of play on Thursday night.

During the Packers possession, Love suffered a big hit to his face right before the end of the quarter from one of the Lions’ defensive linemen.

Fans accuse Detroit Lions of favoritism after referee overlooked roughing the passer call on Jordan Love

Lions’ newest addition, Za’Darius Smith (wearing #99 and also a former Packer), escaped the Packers’ offensive line and got to Love. Smith leaned in with his right arm to stop Love’s pass, but instead of connecting with the ball, he splatted the 26-year-old’s face mask.

More often than not, the referees would call Smith’s tackle a late hit because the ball was already out of Love’s hand and mark it as a forward pass. However, the officials overlooked it, and the play went on without any hitch.

Social media caught a whiff of it and pointed out Campbell’s Lions getting similar favoritism from the officials, as they have the best win-to-loss record in the NFC in 2024.

Detroit Lions’ rise as the NFC juggernauts did not happen overnight. It took years of rebuilding. Dan Campbell’s innovative coaching catapulted them to the top after becoming the first NFC team to reach ten wins

The Lions won again after Jake Bates scored a last-second field goal to secure a 31-34 win. Goff ended the night with 32 completions for 283 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs rushed 14 and 15 times with the ball, respectively, adding a combined 94 yards, one rushing and one receiving touchdown. Tim Patrick scored two receiving touchdowns.

Jordan Love completed just 12 passes for 206 yards and 1 touchdown, along with 4 rushes for 23 yards on the ground. Josh Jacobs scored three touchdowns.
