Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill often argue about who is faster between the two, but Lyles wouldn’t even be in a position to challenge the Miami Dolphins star if it weren’t for his parents and retired sprinters Keisha and Kevin.

During a recent sit-down with former NFL quarterback Cam Newton on his Funky Friday podcast, the 27-year-old revealed his troubled journey to becoming the Fastest Man Alive.

Lyles was a sickly boy growing up in Alexandria, Virginia. He often battled against asthma, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and depression. Keisha’s presence helped Lyles to cope with loss, disappointment, and adversity.

I have done some form of therapy since I was 12 years old… When I was diagnosed with ADD, dyslexia, and all that stuff. I actually got a sports therapist when I was in high school because I’me, ‘I’m going to these big competitions.

Noah Lyles said

Keisha understood the importance of mental health and therapy. She was in the same shoes as her son during her career. So, she was able to connect with Noah and decided therapy was the best way to help him fight all his battles, which he was fighting against himself and the outside world.

Regularly visiting the therapist helped Lyles get a better picture of his psyche. The challenges kept coming at him, and they will continue to do so in the future, but he is now strong enough to stand on his feet and zoom past every single one of them with ease.

I need to be mentally strong and capable enough to know that whatever stage I walk on… It’s not just on track that I need to be prepared; I need to prepare for [the race called] life.

Lyles quipped

Noah Lyles is ready to race Tyreek Hill any time

Lyles competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics and won the gold medal in the 100-meter sprint. He became the fastest man alive, but Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill refused to call him by that title.

Hill argued that he would only acknowledge Lyles if he defeated him in a race. For the casuals, this challenge may seem out of place, but make no mistake, Hill can hold his own in a race. The 31-year-old is among the—if not the—fastest player in football.

Initially, Lyles didn’t bat an eye at Hill’s request. However, he then had an epiphany. Lyles realized that the spice that life once presented was gone after the Olympics. So, he decided to accept Hill’s challenge.

Lyles told Newton that he was prepared to race Hill whenever he wanted.

You can’t really fathom that until you see it in person, and if we go for the Olympics, it’s like, what’s next? All right, give me your best guy [and] if Tyreek [Hill] is your best guy, come on, I’ll whoop you real quick, I’ll show you; it’d be over in the first five meters, probably the first three steps.

Lyles’ response may be linked to Hill’s recent statement about the race. OutKick reported that the Super Bowl winner revealed the date of the race after wrapping up their three-day mandatory minicamp at the Dolphins’ facility.

Actually, I’ve got a race on June 13. I’m doing, like, a little trial race so I can get in shape for that. I’m looking forward to it.

Tyreek Hill told reporters on Wednesday

He didn’t go into the details about a race, but there’s only one race Hill has been excited about, and even lost 15 pounds while preparing for it in the summer, and that is facing Noah Lyles.
