Noah Lyles raced at the Paris Olympics men’s 200-meter final despite having tested positive for COVID-19. As a consequence, he fell to the ground after crossing the line in third place at the Stade de France. Keisha Caine Bishop, the mother of Noah Lyles, bashed the Paris Olympics security for paying ignorance to the incident.

Bishop claimed that the Paris Olympics security refused to call a doctor after Lyles collapsed in the men’s 200-meter final. She further expressed her displeasure that on top of not calling the doctor, the security even refused to help him themselves.

This was one of the scariest moments of my life! Watching my son hold his chest gasping for air while the stadium security refused to call a Dr. as I begged them to send him help. They also refused to do anything to help. They totally ignored me! No parent should ever have to experience this feeling of helplessness!

Noah Lyles was later taken off the track on a wheelchair. Lyles’ coach, Lance Brauman, revealed that his temperature was 102 degrees before his men’s doubles.

Although Noah Lyles knew about his diagnosis before the race, he did not disclose it. In his defense, Lyles claimed took all the necessary precautions. Yet, it did not go as planned. The athlete got a bronze medal in the 200m, but it came with a price. Lyles collapsed right after crossing the finish line. He struggled for air as he had asthma in his childhood and now battled COVID-19.

As a result of his diagnosis, Noah Lyles pulled out of the 4×100-meter relay at the Paris Olympics that was held on Friday, 9th August. On Saturday, Lyles updated the people via Instagram that he was fully recovered and had tested negative for COVID.

Keisha Bishop Worried about Noah Lyles’ future going in the dark

Before the Paris Olympics, Keisha Bishop revealed in an interview that she had a crippling fear for Noah Lyles’ future. She worried that things might soon take a downturn for the American athlete. As a sprinter herself, she felt that she had experienced a similar path.

Bishop spoke about the dangers of the limelight getting into one’s head before it is suddenly stripped away. She was concerned about how Lyles would cope when the lights dimmed, and the adrenaline rush faded. Her fears stemmed largely from the depression Lyles experienced during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he admitted that the absence of spectators played a role in his struggles.

The athlete had admitted that he was a person who loved to connect with the audience. The lack of connection, thereof, was particularly unsettling for Lyles. However, the Paris Olympics gave him quite the stage and he grabbed the opportunity to shine.
