American track and field athlete Noah Lyles recently talked about getting diagnosed with COVID-19 amid Paris Olympic Games, and Team USA’s disqualification in the 4x100m race. While speaking with People, Lyles noted that he was tested positive for COVID prior to the race, but he thought “I was gonna tackle it.”
Lyles did tackle the situation well, as the sprinter got placed third and was unfortunately ruled out for the men’s 4x100m relay final. Team USA eventually got disqualified from the race, but Lyles said he’s proud of his teammates and they did the best they could.
Despite his aches and pains, he achieved 1 gold and 1 bronze medal in the Paris Olympics before being taken away in a wheelchair from the tracks after the 200m run. He recalled speaking with his girlfriend, Junelle Bromfield, a fellow Olympic sprinter, about how “tired” he was feeling.
...I’ve handled stuff like this in the past. I’ve run very close to it after having contracted COVID, many times…knowing that I was made for moments like this and I’ve trained all my life.Noah Lyles as per Rachel DeSantis of People.

For Lyles, despite getting a positive COVID report, he felt the situation was “an all or nothing scenario, because nothing is promised tomorrow.” He acknowledges that it was a “low time” in his life, but it is nothing he cannot overcome.

Noah Lyles expressed that he wishes to leave the past behind and is already mentally preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles race to redeem what he couldn’t do in the Paris Olympics. He praised everyone on Team USA, saying “everybody is truly trying their best” and it was unfortunate to get disqualified in the 4x100m race.
Lyles says it’s impossible to predict what’ll happen during a race as everyone comes to the track to win. He said “We flew past expectations” and took it to the next level and seeing “we were grabbing medals that nobody thought we would take.”
So yes, it does suck and everybody’s going to have an opinion. But trust me when I say everybody is truly trying their best and they are giving their best foot forward…I couldn’t have been more proud to be a part of this team.Noah Lyles as per Rachel DeSantis of People.
However, social media has never been as chaotic as before, after Lyles posted “Thank God, I am Covid free” on X. Fans trolled the sprinter noting he was lying about his COVID-positive reports, and now that the Olympics are over, he’s fine as well. Check out some of the comments below:
