American baseball pitcher Noah Syndergaard recently spoke about a possible 2025 comeback after staying unsigned throughout the 2024 season. In his recent interview with former New York Mets manager Terry Collins, Syndergaard spoke about how he wanted to re-sign with the Mets, the team he spent seven seasons with.

Currently, it is uncertain whether the Mets would want a reunion or not, however, during his tenure with the team, Syndergaard was a force to be reckoned with. He was even given the nickname ‘Thor’ following his stature of 1.98m.

His performance dwindled a bit after leaving the Mets, and Noah Syndergaard ended up missing the whole 2020 season and most of 2021 following Tommy John surgery. In 2022, his season started off with a blast with the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies but hit an alarming low later in the games.

Syndergaard divided his 2023 season with LA Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians, however, his performance did not reach its 100% form. Later in 2024, he did not sign any contracts with teams, but stated he wishes to make a comeback in 2025 possibly with the NY Mets.

I would love to come home to New York. Hopefully that’s in store for me. I love the fan base, I love the city. I love the culture, the history, the passion. It’s the best place to play.
Noah Syndergaard on The Terry Collins podcast.

As his career got marked with injuries and inconsistency, he labeled himself the “weakest link” during his time with the LA Dodgers in 2023. Shortly afterward he got traded to Guardians, but unfortunately, he failed to make his comeback. He ended the 2023 season with a 6.50 ERA, 56 strikeouts, with a 2-6 record.

Syndergaard rejected the 1-year qualifying offer from the Mets noting that it was a crucial time for him, and the Mets did not have a manager or GM early that season. He described leaving the Mets as “the hardest decision of my life, but I definitely think that I made the right decision.”

It definitely was in the back of my head a little bit. This is a really important year for me. This is kind of make or break time for me. I didn’t want to gamble on that kind of uncertainty that has been going on with them.

Apart from the two mentioned teams, he was also part of the Philadelphia Phillies (2022), Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cleveland Guardians (2023). He divided the 2023 season between the two teams, but his performance dropped considerably compared to his time with the Mets.
