“Got me sleeping in lobby” – Ex-Celtics star releases footage of Shanghai Sharks refusing hotel room access

Noah Vonleh shared some bitter experiences from the CBA

Former Boston Celtics and New York Knicks player Noah Vonleh has been making the headlines recently for his nightmare stay in China. Vonleh is an American basketball player who plays professionally for the Chinese Basketball Association’s Shanghai Sharks. After playing just one year in China, Vonleh experienced things that shocked him, resulting in his contract being terminated just after one season in the CBA.

The former Raptors, Knicks, and Trail Blazers star referred to Shanghai as “by far the worst organization” he had been part of and called them extremely unprofessional, presumably because he still hasn’t received his playoff bonus or part of his departure pay. Vonleh also shared a video explaining how the Sharks are refusing to let him sleep in his hotel room, making him sleep in the hotel lobby instead.

This is how the Shanghai Sharks treat their players, I be sleeping in a lobby, won't let me get in my room.
Noah Vonleh said in the video

After playing for the Boston Celtics in the 2022–2023 season for the final time, Vonleh concluded his 12-season NBA career. His greatest season was in 2018–19 with the New York Knicks, where he averaged 8.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, with 57 starts—both career highs. How this story unfolds for Vonleh remains to be seen in the coming days and weeks.

Noah Vonleh exposes Shanghai Sharks’ GM

Former NBA player Noah Vonleh has been garnering attention from the basketball community for his recent treatment in China as a player for the Shanghai Sharks. Vonleh was kicked out of his hotel room by the Sharks, forcing him to sleep in the hotel lobby. The player took to Instagram to expose the Sharks and their GM, Liu JunJun.

This is Liu JunJun, the Shanghai Shark General manager, sometimes goes by the name Ryan as his English name. Liu JunJun is the reason why the Sharks have been so dysfunctional the past few years. He’s the guy who really should be suspended by the CBA. He loves to throw games and was the reason Shanghai was involved in a scandal last year against the Jiangsu Dragons in the 2023 playoffs.

Vonleh claimed Liu JunJun is notorious for game-fixing and was responsible for a scandal against the Jiangsu Dragons in the 2023 playoffs. According to Vonleh, in the 2022 season, the Sharks had a chance to compete for a championship, but Liu JunJun chose to throw the series against the Zhejiang Lions to avoid paying bonuses to the players, and then blamed Vonleh for the loss.

Vonleh praised the former GM, who was ousted during the Jiangsu scandal, for his positive contributions to the team and respectful treatment of players. He mentioned that this former GM had intervened to mediate issues between Vonleh and Liu JunJun but ultimately, they couldn’t reach an agreement.

He expressed frustration over Liu JunJun’s repeated failures and concluded by demanding the remaining $445,000 of his salary for the 2023/24 season, along with interest for the inconvenience caused.
