Nongthombam Singh began his foray into the sport at the AIFF Elite Academy. He has represented India at both the U-15 and U-17 levels. The winger then left the AIFF U-18s to join ISL club Chennaiyin FC in 2018, where he featured for the Chennaiyin II side.

Following a season that saw TRAU FC lose the title to Gokulam Kerala on the final matchday of the season, the club would be raring to go all the way this season. They have already started recruiting players for this task, having already signed Sagolsem Bikash Singh from East Bengal SC earlier in this window.

With winger Krishnananda Singh Khundongbam moving to champions Gokulam Kerala at the beginning of this summer transfer window on a free transfer, Nongthombam could be viewed as a potential replacement for the player. The club has also lost some other key players of last season, with ISL club Bengaluru FC set to sign their top-scorer of last season Bidyashagar Singh.
