Novak Djokovic recalled his childhood story of how he dreamed of playing at the Wimbledon final to winning it multiple times. He will take on Carlos Alcaraz in this year’s edition of the Championships as well. It will be his sixth consecutive Wimbledon Final for the Serbian, who hopes to win his eighth title at the Centre Court.

On Friday, he beat Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets in the semifinal to book a spot opposite Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic had never faced Musetti before in the semi-final of a Grand Slam, but he had to push himself to beat him this time.

Even after taking an early set, Musetti started posing a comeback. He almost had the second set to his name, but the Serbian clutched it in the tie-break to push the match into the third set. Even the crowd was against Djokovic the entire third set, which only made the Serbian finish the match quicker.

He won the match 6-4, 7-6, 6-4 to set a place in the final. The Serbian made it to his 36th Grand Slam final and still feels privileged to enter yet another major final. He revealed how he visualized himself playing at a Wimbledon final when he was a child.

Constructing a Wimbledon trophy out of any material I had in the room. Watching myself in a mirror.. Telling myself I’d be a Wimbledon champion one day. The visualization part was really strong. But obviously it wasn’t enough to make it. I had tremendous support from my family members.
Novak Djokovic said in the on-court interview.

Furthermore, he thanked his team, especially his wife, for all the support. Nole reiterated that the visualization is one part, but it won’t be completed without support, especially from a team or family. Djokovic is lucky enough to get both.

Last year, the two played a nail-biter of a five-set match. Not just the last set, but the tie-break was the highlight where Alcaraz inched out a victory for the ages, winning 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

This year, while Alcaraz has won the French Open and looks menacing to grab the grass major as well, Djokovic arrived at Wimbledon after knee surgery in early June. The second seed has played well in his five matches, losing only two sets to reach his 10th Wimbledon final.
