Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in an exciting second-round match at the 20224 Paris Olympics. He came into the contest all guns blazing and did not give his opponent a chance to settle in.

This was the most-awaited clash at the Summer Games and fans all over tuned in to watch the epic battle between the long-time rivals. It was their 60th career clash and possibly the last time they faced each other.

From the get-go, Djokovic was all over his opponent. He broke a couple of times to take a 6-1, 4-0 lead. However, the momentum completely changed for half an hour as Nadal attempted to fight back. He leveled up the score n the second set but eventually lost the match 6-1, 6-4. After the match, the Serbian stated that he got too comfortable in the second set, which cost him four games.

I’m very relieved because everything seemed to be going my way at 6-1 and 4-0, maybe I felt too comfortable at that moment. At 4-1 I played a regular serve. You can’t give Nadal any chances because he’ll take them, he’ll get back into the match, especially on this court with the crowd involved.

With the loss, Nadal is out of the singles at the Olympics. He is, however, taking part in the doubles alongside Carlos Alcaraz, where the Spanish pair have made it to the second round.

Nonetheless, it was memorable match for tennis fans as the two rivals were facing for the first time since 2022. After the match, Nadal and Djokovic shared a warm hug at the net. Despite their rivalry, both of them have had immense respect for each other over the years.

With the win, Djokovic has advanced to the third round, where he will face either Dominik Koepfer or Matteo Arnaldi. He has been vocal about wanting to clinch the gold medal and has decided to play only in the singles in Paris to ensure he gives his best to emerge victorious.
