The 2020 year was an unprecedented one owing to the covid-19 pandemic. The tennis season was halted from March-June because of the rapidly spreading virus. When the tour resumed in July, several players especially the lower ranked players suffered a huge financial dip after the prize money was drastically reduced.

Novak Djokovic topped the on-court earnings chart for the year 2020. The Serbian accumulated $6,511,233 in prize money this year after the winning four titles and the ATP Cup. His Australian Open title earlier this year formed a major part of his prize money.

The Serb also won the two Masters title in Cincinnati and Rome, won the Dubai Tennis Championships. Apart from the titles, he also finished as the runner-up at the French Open 2020, and also reached the semifinals of the Nitto ATP Finals, last month. However, his prize money this year was half of what he earned in 2019.

Dominic Thiem amassed a total of $6,030,756 in prize money after a brilliant season that saw him lift his first Grandslam title at the US Open. The Austrian also finished as the runner-up at the Australian Open and the Nitto ATP Finals.

Rafael Nadal finished on the third place with a total of $3,881,202 in prize money. The Spaniard won the French Open 2020 and the Mexican Open. In Nadal’s defence, he has played fewer tournaments this year compared to Thiem and Djokovic. He did not compete at the US Open and the Cincinnati Masters, which is the reason why he finds himself at the third place.

Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas occupied the next four spots with prize money of $3,622,891, $3,279,966, $2,223,865, and $2,106,450 respectively. Andrey Rublev is the only player in the top ten rankings who has seen a hike in his prize money from the previous year, after he won five titles in 2020.
