Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic got a lot of praise from netizens for showing his ‘faith in Christ’ after his first-round win at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After defeating Matthew Ebden in Paris, he showed his cross-necklace, attracting praise from the fans.

The fans hailed the Serbian for showing his faith in Jesus and claimed that it was “the only redeemable thing about the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”. Livid with the insult to Christianity during the Opening Ceremony, fans claim to have found a hero in Djokovic who is embracing being an Orthodox Christian.

Novak Djokovic eases past Matthew Ebden to set up potential clash with Rafael Nadal

While Novak Djokovic won over the fans with his gesture after his first-round match, the Serbian also enjoyed a dominant showing on the court against Matthew Ebden. He won 6-0, 6-1 in just 53 minutes to set up a potential clash with his longtime rival Rafael Nadal.

The two could not lock horns at the 2024 Roland Garros as Nadal bowed out in the first round. However, a Djokovic-Nadal clash is on the cards at the Olympics and both players are excited about it. The Serbian admitted that it could be the last time the two face each in their careers.

Playing him is like finals, in any tournament. Particularly here, knowing what he has achieved and what he's done for our sport, but particularly here at Roland-Garros, his record speaks for itself. I look forward to it. If we get to face each other, it's going to be possibly the last time we're going to face each other on a big stage. So I'm sure that people would enjoy it. I'm looking forward to it, and I'll be ready for that matchup.

Notably, while Djokovic is through to the second round, Nadal is yet to play his first-round match. The Spaniard faces Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics on Sunday (July 28). The 14-time French Open champion started his doubles campaign with a dominant win and will be expecting to perform similarly in his singles match too.
