Novak Djokovic admits Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal denied him more Grand Slam wins

Novak Djokovic won his first Grand Slam title in 2008 at the Australian but had to wait for three years to lift his second one. He came close to taking home those trophies, but Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal denied him the chance to do so.

Although Djokovic is the winner of 24 Grand Slam trophies, he still feels that had he found a winning formula to beat Federer and Nadal, he would have won more in his career.

I won my first Grand Slam in 2008 but the next one was in 2011, so, three years I have waited to win another Slam, and I was No. 3 in the world all those three years and No. 2 also in 2009. I was playing at a high level, but I could not win Grand Slams because of these two guys [Federer and Nadal], they were so dominant.

Novak Djokovic told La Nacion

Djokovic edges both Federer and Nadal in their head-to-head encounters. The 37-year-old has won 27 matches out of the 50 he played against the Swiss maestro, while against Nadal, he has emerged victorious 31 times in 60 matches.

Federer retired in 2022, while Nadal will soon bid farewell. He announced on October 10 that the Davis Cup in November will be the final tournament of his career. Djokovic however continues to reiterate whenever he is asked, that the retirement decision is not at all at the back of his mind.
