Novak Djokovic cruised past Dominik Koepfer in straight sets in the third round of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Serbian was fresh off a win against Rafael Nadal and continued the same form in this match as well.
Nothing less than a straight-set victory was expected from the Serbian, who had a very shaky start. He was down a break very soon and fought back to break his opponent. Both were equally matched till the Serbian had a final break of serve to win the first set 7-5.
However, from then on, it was all Djokovic, who took a quick 3-0 lead in the second set. Even though Koepfer did win a couple of games, the 37-year-old marched on to win his third match of the tournament and enter the quarterfinals.
Compared to his last game, the former World No. 1 was less animated. He did not celebrate every point like he did against Rafael Nadal and the level of tennis dropped a bit as well. He hit 15 unforced errors compared to just 19 winners during his 7-5, 6-3 win.
Nonetheless, it was a straightforward victory for him, who will play yet another quarterfinal match at the Olympics. He only has one bronze medal so far in his career and in his quest for a maiden gold medal, he is set to face Stefanos Tsitsipas next.
